Mohair and More

Ceres' Flock Farm

About
In 2021, we pulled up California roots and transplanted ourselves across the country, bringing our livestock and dreams of more farming freedom along for the ride. Now we are a 21 acre family farm nestled on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.
As we establish pastures for seasonal rotation with an eye to a sustainable future for all of us, we aspire to nurture our love of handweaving with natural fibers. The learning never ends, and that is the beauty part.
Any item you might choose to purchase supports our efforts and most especially our beloved goats.

Why Natural Fibers?
Mohair, wool, cotton...why buy items made from them? There are many reasons, simple and not so simple. Natural fibers gathered from animals are renewable and can be be sustainably produced. They are biodegradable and can nourish and protect soil, unlike synthetic fibers that can persist in the ecosystem for years with no benefit to the earth or its organisms. Well-managed grazing animals help to build soil structure and enhance fertility in a cycle that sequesters carbon.
Wool and mohair are breathable, healthy fibers to wear. Suprisingly durable although next-to-skin soft, these animal fibers from sheep and goats yield garments that can last for years.
More information on the benefits of natural fibers is easily found on the internet.
